Catch the Vision is an exciting YMCA Europe event taking place every second year. In a group of 35 young people from around Europe we are searching for the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the spiritual directions for the next years of YMCA development.
We believe it is important that the new generation of YMCA leaders do not isolate these questions from real life, but search for the deepest answers while exposing ourselves to a situation of challenge, of conflict – Real Life! Once we met in East Jerusalem, another time in Kosovo, then in Albania where we discussed Inter Faith Dialogue.
This year we invite you to come to Armenia. The theme is “Young Europe-Old Conflicts”. We will look into the situation in Nagorno Karabagh between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the situation between Georgia and Russia and also the improved relationship between Armenia and Turkey. In all these countries we have YMCAs, on both sides of regional conflicts. How do we relate to one another?
The event will take place October 18 – 24, 2010, in Yerevan Armenia, and will be combined with YMCA Europe Roots for Reconciliation project, a long-term initiative launched to promote peaceful transformation of conflicts in the Caucasus region.
This event will not only focus on conflict. We will also focus on the inspiration, strength and creativity we can find in our spiritual roots, in our Christian Faith.
Thanks to the financial support secured from the Council of Europe, EED – Germany and ICCO – Netherlands, the YMCA Europe has the privilege to offer the selected participants free board and lodging, as well as refund of travel costs, apart from visas. Meanwhile the participants will be expected to pay registration fee at EUR 100.00 and make cost effective travel arrangements.
The deadline for submission of applications is June 30, 2010. Further information on the event, including the detailed working programme, will be disseminated as soon as participants are selected.
We underline that the location for the event is perfectly stable and safe. We also urge you to send in your application as early as possible, since this is a very attractive offer and the event is expected to be fully booked very early.
The leadership of the event will among others consist of Michal Szymanczak, Vardan Hambardzumyan, Michael Wardlow and Johan Vilhelm Eltvik.
Best regards
Johan Vilhelm Eltvik
